The DU-550B powers a first build

A 500 W PC power supply, 80 PLUS Bronze certified and covered for five years: enough to run a first gaming PC or a workstation, with the cables already in place.

Power supply output: 500 W continuous, 550 W peak

To size a build, it is the continuous power that counts: 500 W, available at all times.

The 550 W printed on the side is the peak power, a brief spike the power supply can absorb but not use as a baseline. The figure to keep in mind when choosing components is therefore 500 W.

Most of it goes through the +12 V rail, the one for the processor and the graphics card: up to 456 W (38 A). This rail is single, so the full 12 V power is available on every connector.

80 PLUS Bronze : this certification attests to a verified minimum efficiency, meaning less energy lost as heat between the outlet and the components.

Three things to check on a PC power supply

The 80 PLUS Bronze logo, which marks the certification. The 140 mm fan grille, which draws in air to cool the power supply. At the back, the mains socket and its switch, surrounded by honeycomb vents.

Non-modular power supply: fixed cables, nothing to forget

Non-modular, the DU-550B has its six cables permanently attached : nothing to plug in on the power supply side, no cable to lose in the box.

They carry a 20+4-pin ATX motherboard connector, a 4+4-pin processor connector, two 6+2-pin PCIe for the graphics card, five SATA for SSDs and drives, and three PATA. Before buying, check that your graphics card needs no more than two 6+2-pin PCIe connectors.

The cables combine braided mesh sleeving and flat cables, which lie flat behind the motherboard. Two ties are included.

ATX format: 150 × 85 × 158 mm

150 mm wide, 85 mm high, 158 mm deep for 1.53 kg: the dimensions of an ATX power supply. Check your case's specifications for the power supply length it accepts.

Cooling and protections: what stands guard inside the DU-550B

Once the PC is closed up, two things work out of sight: the fan and the electrical protections.

A 140 mm hydraulic bearing fan, whose speed follows temperature up to 2,000 rpm. Rated noise level: 22.5 dB(A) at 20 % load, 35.2 dB(A) at full load.

Seven protections cut the power in the event of a fault: OCP, OVP, UVP, SCP, OPP, OTP and SIP — over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage, short circuit, overload, over-temperature and mains surge.

The DU-550B comes with a five-year commercial warranty.
