Pause Hardware: the Elite, "simply gorgeous"

Published on October 10, 2023 · 2 min read

An angled cut between the glass and the steel, black and white echoing each other: Pause Hardware had a real eye for the Elite. And points out, just as frankly, what it lacks. Verdict: "Recommended".

Black…

Three panels half glass, half steel, split by a diagonal.

The Elite isn’t after the fish-tank effect: it cuts. On three of its sides, 4 mm tempered glass and0.8 mm steel share the surface along a diagonal line. The reviewer sees it as a subtler take on a case well known to the genre, and even goes so far as to cite Pierre Soulages.

A mid-tower, it nonetheless takesE-ATX, a 400 mm graphics card and a 160 mm CPU cooler.

… and white

The same design, turned to the light.

Available in black and in white, the Elite takes on an even more graphic character in its light version: the white lower section cuts into the smoked glass like a block of colour. It is this pairing of white and black that earns it its best score: 9.4 out of 10 for design.

Four 120 mm ARGB fans are included — three at the front, one at the rear — with a pre-installed hub that drives six fans and seven ARGB elements, plus a remote control. At the front: one USB-C port and one USB-A.

Shortcomings rather than flaws

The reviewer draws the distinction himself: the Elite has no real flaw, but it does have missed opportunities. The main one is its solid front panel, with no mesh or filter, which restricts the air intake — hence the 6.5 for airflow. On top of that:

  • ABS on the front and the base;

  • feet with no anti-slip pads;

  • panels that don't stay in place on their own once their screws are removed;

  • fans you can hear at full speed — 48.9 dB(A) measured at 50 cm.

Hence a qualified verdict: “Recommended”, for those who put looks first. At around €110, with its 4 mm glass, four fans, hub and USB-C, it remains very well equipped.

What Pause Hardware says

  • This M-RED Elite is quite simply stunning!

  • Unfortunately, this M-RED suffers not from flaws, but from omissions that could likewise have pleasantly surprised us in its design.
